Unlocking

I forgot my PIN or password

On the lock screen, tap Forgot and enter your recovery key, the 25-character key shown when you created the vault. You'll then choose a new PIN or password. Without the recovery key there's no way back in: your vault is encrypted and nobody, including the developer, holds a copy of the key.

Why do I have to wait after wrong attempts?

After five wrong attempts in a row, Vaulora makes you wait before trying again, like the iPhone passcode: 1 minute, then 5, then 15, then an hour. Changing the date doesn't shorten the wait.

Face ID stopped working

If you add or remove a face or fingerprint in the Settings app, Vaulora turns biometric unlock off for safety. Unlock with your PIN, then turn it back on in Vaulora's settings.

Backups and moving to a new device

How do I move my vault to a new iPhone?

Three ways: turn on iCloud Sync and choose Restore from iCloud when setting up Vaulora on the new device; restore the new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup of the old one; or export a backup (Settings → Backup) and restore it on the new device. In every case you unlock with the same PIN, password or recovery key.

Can I open a backup without Vaulora?

Yes. Backups are ordinary encrypted .7z or .zip archives. They open with 7-Zip, Keka, WinRAR, ZArchiver and similar apps, using the password you set when exporting.

Importing

How do I get photos into Vaulora?

In the Gallery, tap Import: the photos you pick go into the Imported album. Inside an album, tap + to import straight into it. You can also share photos, videos and files to Vaulora from any app, or drag them in (on iPad and Mac). Turn on Settings → Delete Originals After Importing to have Vaulora remove the originals from your photo library once they're safely in the vault; iOS asks you to confirm, and they stay in Recently Deleted in Photos for 30 days.

What is a decoy vault?

A second, separate vault with its own PIN. If you're pressured to open Vaulora, enter the decoy PIN: it unlocks normally and shows only what you put in it. Set it up in Settings → Decoy Vault. Nothing on the device shows that a decoy exists.

How do I move photos or files into the decoy vault, or back?

Select them and tap Move to Album (or Move in Files). The Vault menu at the top of that screen lists your decoy; choose it, then the album or folder. Moving goes one way, into the decoy: to bring items back, share or export them from the decoy and import them in your real vault. Moved items are re-encrypted with the other vault's key and removed from the one they left. The Gallery's Import menu can put new photos straight into the decoy, and Settings → Open Vault switches between vaults without locking.

How do break-in photos work?

If you turn them on (Settings → Break-in Photos), Vaulora takes a photo with the front camera after the number of wrong attempts you choose, and shows it next time you unlock, with the time. The photo is stored encrypted in your vault.

Can I change Vaulora's icon or name?

Settings → App Icon offers a few alternative icons.

Are Live Photos kept?

Yes. Live Photos stay live when you import them, move them in and out of Vaulora, archive them or back them up, and their dates and locations are kept.
